Lyon, France (AHN) – A French man was fined $253,920 for defacing his 18th century home with junk and paint for the sake of art.

Thierry Ehrmann has spent about $3.2 million to turn his home in a suburb of Lyon, France into a work of art called « The Abode of Chaos. »

The businessman, who made his fortune from Internet art data, has been working on the project since 1999.

He placed a wrecked helicopter in the courtyard, and put an oil platform reproduction on the roof. Among the 2,500 « works of art » littering his property are smashed-up cars.

Black and white photos of war and politicians such as President Bush cover the walls of the home, which are painted black.

Ehrmann said the purpose of art was to ask questions.

He tells TF1 television, « We are in a period of questioning. »

A court in Lyon said he violated town planning laws by changing the property without permission.
